Fast Fashion Hack

Hi Wonderful Friend!

It is very tempting right now to buy a $14.99 dress or a-somehow-$4.99 top.

Fast fashion is aggressively on sale and it’s normal to want a little something extra to update your Summer rotation.

Between you and me, a secret of fast fashion is the cheap short-staple yarns frequently used.

Short-staple yarns are generally weaker and hairier than long staple and tend to break easily, hence a less expensive price.

Once woven, short-staple yarns are then singed-a process to burn off the fuzz-in order to appear smoother and more desirable.

Special finishes are then applied to seal in the smoothness and this is what allows the garments to look pretty damn good in the stores.

The problem is water. When you hand wash the garments, as usually directed, the finishes and singing processes are reversed. All of the short hairy yarns go back to their short hairy selves.

So if you want to maintain the look you saw in the store, don’t wash it. Seriously. Air it out or dry clean it if you must, but don’t wash it! Here’s a before and after…just one wash.

Keep your fast fashion dry!

Enjoy!
