Goodbye 2022

Hi Wonderful Friend!

It’s time for 2022 to end.

A tough year for most of us, 2022 has put us through the wringer and surprisingly left us with a feeling that things just might be improving.

2022 (and the two previous years) have been summed up in one word. A permacrisis, def: an extended period of instability and insecurity.

It feels difficult to read and also entirely true.

The slog of 2022 amplified our uneasiness and reminded us all that nothing is certain. Whatever negative emotions we have endured, today is the perfect time to acknowledge what we have been through and release it.

I invite you, right now, to take a few minutes and jot down three negative emotions you felt in 2022. Did you feel scared? Lonely? Overwhelmed? Indifferent? Invisible?Angry? Write it down on a small piece of paper.

It must have been very difficult to feel those things.

It must have felt very frustrating to struggle with those complicated emotions.

Acknowledge the internal work it took to navigate these feelings. How you felt them and did stuff anyway. How you showed up even though it was hard.

Give yourself a pat on the back for getting to the end of this challenging year even though the words on the paper were present for most of it.

Now tear the paper up into tiny pieces or -safely- set it on fire, flush them down the toilet or toss them in the trash.

Negative emotions push us forward and beg us to ask for more. They never really go away and this exercise reminds you how strong you are. Feelings come and go but it is you who is running the show and it is you who made it this far.

New Years is a perfect time to let go and welcome in.

I should know….

I was born on New Year’s Day and have always felt the end of one thing heralding the new. Do I love New Year’s Eve? No, not a fan. Do I love starting the year with a new intention? Yes. Absolutely.

So tomorrow I will again invite you to check in and, this time, we will focus on what we want to bring IN.

Lean into the dramatic nature of this weekend and let go and begin again.

Until tomorrow, Happy New Year’s Eve!

Much Love,

XO

Holly

ps- Did you know the word January is based on the Latin word “ianua” which means door. The name was chosen to symbolize the opening of a new door that happens when the new year begins. Let’s open it together tomorrow!
