Behind The Gen Z Met Gala

Hi Wonderful Friend!

The Met Gala did not disappoint. It was the brightly colored, pretty ridiculous fashion spectacle I had been longing for.

Gen Z-focused, the gala and it’s twenty-something attendees looked lovely, polished and a little bit crazy, all with something to say-which is what I love about them. In case you missed the messages, here are a few.

Billy Eilish channeled her childhood Holiday Barbie Doll (quite literally) with the help of the brilliant team at Oscar de la Renta. In order to get her to sign on, however, they had to agree to give up fur. Yes, this 19-year old singer single- handedly convinced a 56-year old fashion house to stop running something she didn’t believe in.

Grimes, the singer and Elon Musks’ baby mama who doesn’t connect with the word mom and asks her son to call her by her name, Claire, brought an actual sword to the gala. The sword is made from a melted down AK47 by a company which hopes to melt down every AK47 they can get their hands on. I’m all for it but is anyone else trouble by the fact she brought a sword to the gala? Anyone? Is it just me??

The hands down winner for creative self-promotion at the Met Gala was Frank Ocean. He is an extremely talented singer and one of the first to come out as a gay black man in hip hop. After taking a break from his singing career, Frank Ocean has been out of the spotlight for a minute and came back with a little crazy on his arm. A very expressive mechanical doll in a gorgeous silk onesie. Huh?

Yep. The mechanical baby with braces is named Cody and his luxe onesie is announcing Ocean’s new luxury company HOMER which features high end jewelry from his own diamond lab and cool silk scarves (as modeled by Cody).

This was a very low-key, completely confusing and perfect way to announce what could be a very big deal and infusion of new into the luxury market-HOMER.

Pricing around what Cartier charges, HOMER is serious utterly unexpected design. Ocean is also in collaboration with PRADA and created the most desired nylon pieces of the year.

Watching Frank Ocean and Cody will be exciting, I promise, stay tuned!

Enjoy!
